Quick rule of thumb: If your daily driving is under 80 km and you can charge at home or work, the PHEV lets you run most days on electricity alone. If you'd rather not think about charging, the hybrid delivers outstanding fuel economy without plugging in.
Federal rebate note: The RAV4 PHEV SE ($48,750 MSRP) may qualify for a $2,500 rebate through Canada's Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP), applied at the dealership. Higher PHEV trims are above the program's $50,000 transaction value cap and likely won't qualify. The RAV4 Hybrid is built in Canada at TMMC, but the PHEV is not — so it doesn't receive the Canadian-made exemption from that cap.
